MGA

Malaysian Gas Association

The Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) is a non-profit organisation formed on 21 July 1986 under the ambit and initiative of its founder members, namely PETRONAS, Shell, Esso and BP. Its objectives are to stimulate the development of the gas industry in Malaysia and to provide a forum for members to exchange experiences and to advance knowledge on all aspects of the gas and gas-related areas. Over the years, MGA has grown in size, having a membership of more than 130 corporate organisations hailing from the gas and gas-related fraternities.

The Association is a member of the International Gas Union (IGU), the world’s foremost body and spokesman for the gas industry. The upcoming 2009-2012 IGU triennium will see MGA helming the Presidency role of IGU leading to the hosting of the inaugural 25th World Gas Conference in 2012 in Kuala Lumpur.

MGA is also a member of GASEX (Gas Information Exchange in Western Pacific Area) along with fourteen other countries. The aim of GASEX is to strengthen information exchange in order to develop the gas industry in the area and seek solutions to issues facing member countries. Major activities of GASEX include organising of biennial conferences and exhibition.

One of the significant achievements of the MGA thus far is hosting the 10th LNG International Conference and Exhibition in 1992, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This premier event on LNG attracted some 4000 participants including delegates, exhibitors and visitors to the exhibition.

MGA also hosted the GASEX 96 Conference and the NGV 96 Conference and Exhibition in 1996.  As co-organisers with ASCOPE (ASEAN Council on Petroleum), MGA was involved in the hosting of the Second Asian Pipeline Conference and Exhibition held on 21-22 November 2006 in Kuala Lumpur. The event was participated by 300 delegates and guests from over 15 countries. In addition, the exhibition features 18 local and international pipeline companies covering all facets of pipeline design, operation and maintenance.
